Woking travelled to Thames Ditton on Saturday to take on the Old Oundelians in their latest league game. Unusually Woking started the game strongly as their forwards took the game to Oundelians with some ferocity. This started to pay dividends as Woking’s backs received good ball. Early in the match, from quickly recycled ball Woking’s Tom Eker burst past three Oundelians defenders to score a try near the posts.
More pressure from Woking’s forwards provide space for Woking’s backs toi move the ball wide. A clever switch between Aitcheson and Murphy in midfield provided the breakthrough. Quickly recycled ball allowed scrum half Workman to put Aitcheson in for a try between the posts.
Woking’s dominance continued with barnstorming runs from Nick Franchino and Adam Smith in the backrow.
The pressure Woking were creating led to Oundelians conceding a number of penalties that Dan Edwards converted into points with the boot.
In the second half Woking continued their dominance as Dan Hills and Dan Edwards linked well to create a try for vice-captain Hills.
Things were working well for Woking despite the loss of Steve Rhodes with a sore ankle and Aitcheson and Edwards were in majestic form in the backs. Woking’s line outs were effective and Woking’s forwards were in general in charge of all aspects of the upfront game. Franchino continued to make a big impact around the park, creating havoc throughout the Oundelians defence.
Dan Edwards once again broke through the defensive line and passed out to Tom Eker on the wing who had an easy stroll in for the score.
Woking’s man of the match Nick Franchino was generous to Oundelians as the game drew to an end, fumbling a pick and go on Woking’s 5 metres line that presented an easy pick up and drive over try for the Oundelians pack.
