Woking entertained Sutton and Epsom at the Recreation Ground on Saturday in bright but chilly conditions. Woking started brightly and were soon to register points on the board when centre Neil "Ballet Pumps" Murphy burst through several tackles following an initial break by fly half Aitchison. Both sets of forwards were working hard, Woking’s pack was good in the loose and Sutton and Epsom had the squeeze on in the scrum. Woking’s forwards were quick in the loose throughout the game and following some such good work Woking No 10 Mike Aitchison dummied his way down the right wing and scorched in for a try. Steve Workman converted his second kick to take Woking 14-0 up. Sutton and Epsom hit back with a try when some rather sloppy tackling from Woking allowed them through and the try was well converted. Strong running from the Woking backs saw them get deep into the Sutton & Epsom twenty two – Woking’s second row Tom Bennett picked the ball from the ruck and powered over the line stretching long to touch down. Workman slotted the kick. Following half time, Woking wing Wallis got on the end of some strong running from full back Gareth Williams and raced in for his first try shortly to be followed up by a second try where he scorched through from deep to score between the posts and the try was converted. Aitchison was back on the score sheet minutes later when he jinked his way through from the Sutton & Epsom twenty two. Woking rang the changes with their subs taking the field. This caused a little disruption to the side and Woking lost a little shape in the backs. Sutton and Epsom exploited this with a try wide out. Woking captain Phil Robertson led from the front during the game and kept up his great try scoring record when he surged over the line from close in for Woking’s last points. Sutton & Epsom were competitve to the end and again caught Woking out in defence in the dying minutes of the game as the stretched Woking’s defence on the right.
