Saturday afternoon saw Woking claim their third bonus point victory in a row with a home win over Raynes park to top the table. Woking opened the match with superb energy and pressure which led to Blundell scoring an opportunistic pick and go try around the fringes in the opening five minutes.
Raynes park pegged Woking back deep into their own half immediately from the restart and won a penalty in front of the posts to reduce Woking's lead to 2 points. Woking responded ruthlessly with their forward pack imposing themselves on the opposition to secure quality ball consistently for the rest of the half. This enabled the team to play outstanding expansive rugby with Woking running in three tries before the half from Brennan, Wogan and Murphy. All of the tries came from Woking consistently breaking the game line, linking up well in midfield and managing to offload effectively in the tackle to go into the half 20-3 up with the bonus point secured.
In what was truly a game of two halves the second half saw Woking concede too many sloppy penalties and a lapse in concentration. This allowed an effective Raynes park kicking game to get them back into the match early on with a try double. The Woking forward pack saved the day with a strong line out platform which enabled Blundell to run in from the 22 to alleviate some of the renewed Raynes park pressure. Dougherty converted Woking's only points from the tee to extend the lead by two and secure the victory. Despite a late Raynes park try the match ended 27-22 to Woking. The score line in all honestly flattered the visitors and saw Woking make hard work of what should have been a more convincing victory. Coach D'Cruz commented after the match "Always great to get full points and top the league early in the season. There were plenty of positives but also areas for us to work on ahead of next weeks cup match."
